How much do you take into consideration how much your inmate likes you (or dislikes you, I guess) ?

I'm not sure. I've just met mine and I'm not sure if I should level with him or be a complete drill sergeant. I mean... are we supposed to be their friends and mentors or are we supposed to bully them until they finally see the light? Or are we supposed to do both simultaneously? I just don't know.

It's not so bad once one manages to accept it, but I suppose it helps that I've never been terribly concerned with being liked when I'm not onstage. Really, my biggest challenge with O'Brien was learning to get over my own instinctive reactions to him.

She doesn't listen to anyone that's directly in charge of her. It doesn't matter if she likes me or not. I don't want her to change for me. I want her to change for her.

Depends on what the situation is. If she wants a knife to castrate someone but how much she likes me hangs in the balance, I couldn't care less.

Long time no see, pet. So - can I propose a completely hypothetical situation? Good. Say your inmate was planning something.. big. And you knew she was justified in it, but you weren't so sure it was all that good for her rehab.

What would you do? Turn a blind eye? Lock her up? What.

As was said by another above I've like her to trust me more than like, as such. I wouldn't mind if she thought of me like some kind of big brother that she can turn to if she needs to talk or is in trouble. With that said, I've only really spoken to her once so far as she's still recovering from the death toll. Mostly I'd like her to think she can be honest with me.

I don't actively try to make her dislike me, I just aim for what is right - if that upsets her, then it does. I always tell her she's entitled to ask why, and I'll explain why, so I hope there is some kind of trust I have her best interests in mind. If she likes it or not is not such an important concern.

I suppose it rather depends on the best course of rehabilitation. Personally, I feel that in such an environment, where the ratio is one to one, building a rapport with one's ward is essential to mending their ways. If they don't trust you, you shan't ever know them, and if you don't know them, you have no reasonable basis from which to draw their path of recovery.
